National Qualifier Success!
Our Junior Teams had outstanding results at Synchro Canada’s 2015 National Qualifier Championships in Victoria, BC last week. The Combo Team finished 4th with their Zombies routine, just 0.0333 points behind the bronze medalist Synchro Elite de Quebec. As well, our two Junior teams both finished in the Top 10 in the Junior FINA Team Championships. The Junior A Cannibals team finished 7th and the Junior B Aliens team finished 10th.
Our Austrian Duet of Marlene Gerhalter and Judith Gerhalter also had the chance to show off their routine at Qualifiers, pre-swimming in the Junior FINA Duet event. They will compete as an International Duet at the Canadian Open under the BC Aquasonics banner.
We were also very proud of our 13-15 Back to the Future provincial stream team who came to the National Qualifier to pre-swim in the 13-15 team preliminaries. You nailed your routine! Nicely done.
Full results are posted at Synchro Canada: www.synchro.ca
All three Junior teams head next to Toronto for the Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships, April 29 to May 3.
Lower Mainland Provincial Stream Regionals & Recreation Meet: April 18-19
Good luck to our 5 Provincial Stream Teams and 2 Recreational Teams at the Lower Mainland Provincial Stream Regionals and Recreational Meet at Watermania this month! We can’t wait to see you all show how hard you have worked to create some very spectacular routines. The National Stream teams will also be joining the meet on Saturday for a showcase event before heading to the Canadian Open.
Parents: because we have more athletes attending this meet than any other Club, we will be expected to provide significant volunteer power to the meet. Sign-up for volunteer shifts will take place online and the sign-up link will be sent out closer to the event. If every family could plan to volunteer for at least 2 shifts, we will cover our responsibilities.
For those of you who are new to meet volunteering, the prime jobs are those on deck during the events your child is swimming where you get the best view of their swim. During figures, these are the figure scorer positions and during routines look for timer and runner positions. All are simple! Any time spent volunteering counts towards your Club Family Commitment Points.
Year End Watershow & AGM: May 20
Mark your calendars for the Year End Watershow and our Annual General Meeting on May 20 at Surrey Sport and Leisure. This year’s Watershow will be a send-off show for all of our Provincial Stream and National Stream teams heading to competition a few days later.
For parents, the AGM will follow the Watershow at 5:45pm in Multi-purpose room #2. This meeting is where we will hold the elections for the 2015-2016 Executive. Also on the Agenda will be a review of the new registration process for next season and numerous bylaws changes that we need to make.
Nominations for 2015-2016 BC Aquasonics Executive
We will be setting up an online nominations form to nominate directors for the 2015-2016 BC Aquasonics Executive (links to be sent later in April). This year, nominations must be received in advance by May 10th – no nominations from the floor. Each person nominated must agree to the nomination and be nominated by two other members. Names of the nominees will be emailed to all members in advance of the AGM.
Nominations will be accepted for the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Member at Large positions. We have multiple Member at Large positions. We are looking for directors with specific expertise and interest in marketing, sponsorship & business development, human resources, legal & risk management, and membership services.
